Here at Holmecliffe Gundogs i choose to work a predominately retriever pack with a handful of Cocker spaniels. I love the way the different breeds compliment each other when working.
I feel i am a retriever person in my heart but cant live without a cheeky little cocker or two.

The Queen of our pack. Linen is the ultimate family pet, peg dog, life companion, picking up machine and sofa surfer. Anyone who knows Kate just knows what this girl means to her. Everything you could wish for in a Golden Retriever. Mum to Lyric and Grandma to Lark. She is where our working line of Golden Retrievers started. She is an independant thinker with a strong work ethic.
Linen has taken part in competitive gun-dog training in her younger years but she is most definitely at her happiest out working, picking up.

Golden Retriever
Daughter of Linen, Lyric was the first working goldie we bred here at Holmecliffe. She was everything i could of wanted and more. Lyric has a super laid back nature around home and in the house, she is gentle, quiet and keeps herself to her self.I do not think i have ever heard her bark. Yet when she gets out working she really comes alive. Lyrics incredibly natural at finding game and tends to find life in general a breeze.

Lark, what can i say about this young dog other than i have been absolutely blown away by her work ethic and ability for her young age. The 2024/2025 shoot season was her first, Lark very quickly picked up the ropes and understood the task in hand. Shes extremlu natural at finding game. She also enjoys training on dummys in the summer time and i plan to pursue Working Tests with her this summer time. Lark has her mother Lyrics lovely laid back, easy going nature at home.

Sweet, Sweet Lottie, our lovely girl. Lottie has the kindest, most loving temperament. She absolutely lives to please her human and is extremely loyal to Kate. Lottie can be slightly more "fizzy" than my other girls, she has a lot of drive and loves to retrieve. Lottie was bred by our good friends who we train and pick up with. Lottie's sire is the handsome Kaliture Red Pepper and because of Lottie's nature and drive we choose to use Red Pepper on Lyric, producing us Lark.
Lottie is a beautiful girl with the iconic "lucky: stripe down her nose - which Kate loves.

Cocker Spaniel
Ahhhhh Goose. Our pocket sized Cocker who identifies as a Golden Retriever. Goose has been the easiest little dog we have ever owned. She is here to do a job and get a job done. You rarely hear your self saying her name as she always just where you need her. She does not know her own size and is capable of picking up pheasants, partridge, ducks, pigeons and even trys to retriever Geese.
She is a little dog that makes me smile daily and can do beautiful long marked retrieves just like a retriever. Shes also a fab little beating dog and often gets borrowed by my husband Tom to go beating for the day.

Cocker Spaniel
Google is a sweet natured, easy going girl.
She is very much a family pet, she adores my son. Following him all around the garden and playing with him.
She loves to carry toys, balls, shoes, anything she can get her mouth on.
She is a really fun easy going little dog who thrives of human or dog companionship.
Google didn't start working/picking up till she was around 3 years old. She has taken it in her stride and is a asset too my team. She will happily pick duck, pheasant, partridge, grouse or pigeons.
She is a clever little dog with just the right amount of drive, she is not a field trialing type of cocker she is more of a all round family pet who can also enjoy a days shooting.

Ruby's the latest cocker to join our team, she's come to us as a 2 year old having not seen much of the world. I enjoy these little projects and giving dogs a real purpose. Ruby is a really sweet girl and tries so hard to get it right. She is loyal and wants to be with you, she has natural hunting ability and is interest. Ruby is extremely kind and great around Dougie our little boy.
We have recently started Rubys health testing and she is DNA clear of all genetic diseases.

Curly Coated Retriever
Bridie where do we start about this larger than life character. Where it all started was my urge to have a dual purpose breed. I really wanted a breed which i could work and show. This started me looking into the other retriever breeds and instantly the Curly Coats stood out to me. I made great friends with Bridie's breeder Jo and so the dream started. Bridie has been nothing short of a complete joy, she is a easy going, laid back, hilarious and beautiful girly. We take Bridie shooting with us, retrieving has not come naturally to Bridie but she does hunt away beautifully. CCR are slow to mature so I am not to concerned about the delay in retrieving for Bridie, we will certainly give her all the time to mature. But Bridie really has shown her strengths in the show ring, qualifying for Crufts on her first attempt. Bridie has beautiful show ring presence, she is a lovely straight mover and light on her feet.

Binky, the baby of the fam and our first flat coated retriever.
Excited to see where we go with this beautiful little lady, she has a fabulous head on her shoulders and is always happy. She has the gorgeous Flat Coat demeanour of ALWAYS wagging her tail. She is already showing great interest in feather and a want to learn. She is also. very loving kind little girl.
Still to young for hips and elbows but she is genetically clear of all DNA diseases.

Holmecliffe's Every Chance

One of our latest members of the team. Chance is our last little girl from our wonderful Linen. We had to keep her. She will hopefully become a part of our picking up team and potential future mummy in years to come if she passes all of her health test and has the wonderful temperament we believe she does.
Chance's dad is the gorgeouse Rufus (Fallowfen imperial red at Lowerleazes). We choose Rufus as he is from very similar lines to Linen and a lot like linen in size, stature, tempermant and working ability. We have basically tried to. replicate Linen and so far we are delighted with the results. Lets see how this gorgeous little lady matures.
